Grumpy Bastard Week: Family Guy
"Your sense of humor is just like Family Guy"
I've been told this before. A few times.
And I find great joy in watching Cartman's furious response to Kyle's rather innocent suggestion. Catharsis at its finest.
It's not that I think Family Guy never has good moments. Just recently I saw a sequence on the show that I thought was well done and (gasp) smart.
But overall I just find it rather...what's the word I'm looking for...irrelevant.
With the tendency for numerous cutaway gags, it's the perfect show for the ADD-afflicted American. If you're not liking the current storyline, fear not. You'll get a completely unrelated joke in about 15 seconds. I stumbled upon an episode the other day and it wasn't more than 10 seconds before a cutaway gag. Cartman is correct in his lamenting about the show's brand of humor. This is also one reason I believe the clips are so popular on YouTube, because they rarely need to be connected to a storyline and usually stand as their own entities.
Plus more times than not I feel like Family Guy really doesn't stand for anything.
And at the risk of sounding like I can't or don't think for myself, a line has been drawn in the sand. South Park and The Simpsons stand together on one side, and Family Guy stands on the other. I won't get into all of that, but the South Park and Simpsons people have made it clear how they feel about Family Guy.
Until the next Grumpy Bastard post, I'm Drew Brown. Goodnight.

I am gonna go out on a limb here, and allow for you to put me on your "not so found of her anymore" list... but I love the family guy for almost the exact same reasons that you listed as why you dis-like it.
I call it Junk Food for the brain.
I guess I just like to laugh at someone being hit in the crotch more than the average american, but that is what family guy is to me. Just one big HIT in the crotch, caught on (animation) Camera.
I know I am an idiot... But I am proud to be an idiot sometimes. I just dont always want clever banter, I want a hit in the crotch to laugh at.
Thank you
Jes
I'm all for mindless entertainment. One of the reasons I LOVE The Hills.
But I have a problem when people put Family Guy on the same level with South Park or The Simpsons. Or referring to it as 'smart'.
Maybe I should lighten up!
