Aww Zell

There is a fan uproar over the possibility (or what now seems like a conclusion) that Wrigley Field is going to undergo a name change in the near future.

Sam Zell, the billionaire owner of the Tribune Company, has stated that he won't hesitate to sell the naming rights which will command hundreds of millions of dollars.

I'm not exactly sure where the money will go, but it sounds like the Cubs won't benefit. I've read one article that claims Zell will use the money to decrease the Tribune Company's debt. But the more popular belief says that he's going to pocket the money. We are potentially talking in the neighborhood of $500 million.

An elderly billionaire ignoring the interest of the public to make himself richer. Sam Zell is a real life Montgomery Burns.

My attitude would be different if that money was added to the team's payroll. If selling the naming rights to Wrigley tacked on another $20 million every year for the Cubs to play around with, I'd have no issue with renaming the park.

I would rather watch the first place Cubs at United Stadium than the second place (or worse) Cubs at Wrigley Field.

But that doesn't appear to be the case. It looks like Mr. Burns is going to wring out Wrigley Field and keep the money for himself.

Poor guy only has $6 billion right now. We wouldn't want him wearing rags.
