Woke Up This Morning...

Until recently, I regarded 24 as easily the best drama on TV. There wasn't even a close second.

Enter The Sopranos.

After recently completing the first five seasons of the HBO series, there may be a new king to assume the crown.

Before I ever started watching the show, I actually carried some bitterness towards it. Why? Because James Gandolfini has won three Emmys and a Golden Globe for Best Lead Actor in a Drama Series while Kiefer Sutherland has zero Emmys and one Golden Globe win. I never liked that Kiefer got the shaft. The show has also been nominated in each of its five seasons, though it's only won one Emmy and Golden Globe, thanks to the domination of The West Wing.

Oh yeah...and Edie Falco has won three Emmys and two Golden Globes for her role as Carmela Soprano.

In my humble opinion, the acting, writing, and directing are all superior to 24.

The shows are obviously very different. I still don't think anything can compare to 24 when it comes to a pure thrill ride. I think it's still the most exciting show I've ever seen.

I'm blown away by both shows, but The Sopranos is more art than adrenaline, more innovative than intense.

In fact, the New York Times has called it "the greatest work of American popular culture in the last 25 years". Mighty strong words.

Newsweek has also called it "far and away the best show on television."

I've never seen a better show.

Not Lost.
Not CSI.
Not The Shield.
Not even 24.

The Sopranos is the best show on television.

And to top it off, try to find me a cooler TV theme song. You can't. So enjoy this extended version of it. Listen to it, but don't steal it. Bastards.
