Daaaaaa Bearsss

Alright, so the picture is marginal at best because we're mostly in Bulls apparel. But this was taken when I was in junior high (mid 90's) and the Bulls were in their heyday. This was at the school variety show...we performed a superfans sketch. That's me with the mic.

I usually say that my Chicago sports allegiance is as follows>> 1. Cubs 2. Bulls 3. Bears. I love all 3 teams, but the passions burn at different degrees. I think about the Cubs more than a person should think about a baseball team. I grew up with the Jordan-led Bulls as a perennial playoff team, so that brings them into the number 2 spot. And the Bears get 3. Probably also has something to do with baseball and basketball being my two favorite sports.

But you gotta love the way the Bears are playing right now. There's buzz about this team for the first time since 2001 when they surprised everyone with a 13-3 record and a first round bye. A lot of good it did...the Eagles gave them a beatdown and disappointing end to a fun season.

Hopefully, this year will be a little different. If you gathered up all the people who thought the Bears would be 9-3 after 12 games you could probably fit them all onto a Sears Tower elevator.

How far can the Bears go? Well, they probably need a professional football player at quarterback. Kyle Orton is not good. He's not awful, and he doesn't make mistakes that cost them games, but as my hero Dan Bernstein says 'lack of bad does not equal good'.

The defense is good enough to win the Super Bowl. The offense....needs help. They need a healthy Rex Grossman. Will he step in and become Peyton Manning? No, but if healthy he'd give the team a better chance to win games.

So here's a poll probably more suited for guys than girls...

How far will the Bears go in the playoffs?
Win the Super Bowl
Win the NFC Championship
Win a divisional game
Win a wild card game (if they don't get a bye)
Lose their first game
Pull a 2004 Cubs and miss the playoffs

Whoa! I totally remember that- way to bring back some St. Peter memories. Ha ha! It was quite impressive for a middle school talent show. Hope you're doing well, Drew.
